Friendship House Ministries

Content here would describe the over all ministries mission...

Founded in 1987, Friendship House has always served as a sanctuary and a stepping-stone for the homeless men, women and children of New Castle County. Its goal has always been to create small church-based programs that:

  • Fill the gaps in the human service safety net
  • Empower people in need to regain control of their lives
  • Build bridges of mutual trust and understanding

In the last twenty- four years, Friendship House has expanded into churches and schools, businesses and community organizations. It currently operates one emergency shelter and ten halfway houses, hosting seventy homeless individuals and families on any given night. Its three daytime centers for men and women daily serve over two hundred homeless clients. Its clothing ministry-The Clothing Bank of Delaware-distributes more than 12,000 pounds of quality used clothing monthly through its network of more than three hundred distribution centers. Its prison outreach ministry offers on site presentations and individual case management to more than one hundred fifty men and women incarcerated in Delaware prisons. The Friendship House volunteer corps now numbers more than  fifteen hundred men, women, and children.
