Snapshots From the Often Overlooked

A Photovoice Project

This fall, Friendship House and the Delaware State Housing Authority has conducted a Photovoice project with the residents of Andrew's Place.

Photovoice is a grassroots approach to creating social and policy change. The Andrew's Place project's goals include:

  1. Enabling homeless people to record and reflect the strengths and needs of the homeless in Wilmington by teaching them the Photovoice methodology, coordinating their efforts, and providing them with the resources to record their experience through pictures.
  2. Using the complete photo display with its accompanying stories to dialogue with policy makers and community leaders about the issue of homelessness in Delaware.

The Photovoice project has been graciously offered a gallery space at 605 N. Market Street, Wilmington DE by the Buccini/Pollin Group. The final exhibit includes 25 photos with captions written by the men. The first exhibition on December 18th drew over 100 people. The exhibit was shown again on Friday, February 6th as part of the Wilmington Art Loop. DVD copies of the exhibit are available through the Friendship House office.
