This eleventh season of winter weekend hospitality was marked by appreciative guests, reliable volunteers and a remarkably consistent communal spirit. For the first time in nearly five years, Wilmington has experienced a severe winter. This has resulted in a significant increase in numbers at both hospitality centers. This winter Saturday morning hospitality at First & Central is averaging 75 guests while Sunday hospitality at Trinity and West is hosting an average of 60 guests. The vast majority of the clients are homeless street men with nowhere else to go. Besides offering sanctuary from the elements and a hot cup of coffee, a solid team of church volunteers, who have made a monthly commitment to the ministry, create a communal presence that gives folks the sense of being welcomed by the church and not simply being given sanctuary in a church.
