DELIVERY
DRIVERS -
The Clothing Bank of Delaware is in desperate need of volunteers, who
would be willing to deliver small orders of clothing to churches and
community organizations with people in need. Our current drivers volunteer one morning or afternoon a week, use their own
car and make two or three deliveries to a section of New Castle County with
which they are familiar.
CLOTHING
DRIVE - Volunteers can organize
a clothing drive at work or at church. A van is available to pick
up donations.
ONE-DAY
CLOTHING GIVE-AWAY - Clothing (any
amount) can be delivered to your church or agency.
You give the clothing to those in need.
We will pick up whatever is left over.
SORT
CLOTHING - Group or Individual
opportunity to work with homeless women in employment-training program,
preparing clothing donations for distribution to the community.
Excellent experience for youth groups.

DONATION
DRIVE - Ideal opportunity for
groups and clubs to provide valuable support to Friendship House by
sponsoring collections for coffee, toiletries, diapers, paper products,
other household goods, and food products.
TELEPHONE
MONITORS - Women needed at Women’s
Center to receive calls and help women guests place phone calls.
Weekly or monthly commitment of at least 3 hours.
GROCERY
SHOPPING - Drivers needed to accompany
women of Jane Ashford House and Patterson House for weekly grocery shopping.
It takes 1-2 hours once a month, twice a month or on an on-call
basis. Monday evenings.
TUTORS
- Tutors needed to assist women with GED courses and
school age children when they are living in our transitional housing.
Also, instruction in computer techniques, e.g., word processing, data
entry, etc. Time commitment
flexible.
SUPPORT
GROUP LEADERS - People wanted to design
and lead special support groups. Subjects
and length of program to be determined with Director of Ministry.
HOUSE
WARMING DRIVES - Put together cleaning
products & food baskets for women moving into their own apartments.
CLEAN
UP DAYS - (Jane Ashford House,
Patterson House and Palmer House)
Spring or Fall cleaning, painting, fixing up, etc.
SUPPORT
FOR MONTHLY WOMEN’S GRADUATE GATHERINGS - Many
options! Be a group facilitator
(in the past, we have discussed credit, relationships, stress; we have made
dried flower arrangements and learned calligraphy).
Assist with food preparation for the women and/or the children.
Assist with child care during the meeting.
Once or on a rotating schedule.
EVENING
SUPPER PROVIDER/SERVER - Volunteer
teams provide an evening meal to the residents of Andrew's Place, our
emergency shelter for elderly homeless men.
Share a simple meal with residents between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m.
The shelter season runs from September to June.
Once
or on a rotating schedule.
EMERGENCY
SHELTER VOLUNTEER - Men with caring
attitude work with staff person at Andrew's
Place, our emergency shelter for elderly homeless men, Primary responsibility is to be a “friend” and listener.
Requested commitment is three to four evenings a month. The shelter
season runs from September to June.
SUNDAY BREAKFAST: PREPARATION & SERVING Teams of people (families or individuals) prepare meal Saturday afternoon 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and serve Sunday morning, 7:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. Commitment is one weekend every nine weeks for preparation and serving.
TUTORS - Tutors needed to assist the men in transitional with GED tutoring, budgeting and money management. Time commitment flexible.
JOB
COACHES
- Tutors needed to help the men in the transitional
housing program with their resumes, job search for better employment and
interview practice.
AA
SUPPORT - AA members welcomed at
Friendship House meetings, 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday,
located at the Men’s Center.
WEEKEND
HOSPITALITY - Individuals, couples or teams
needed to assist staff member Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. during winter
season (November - April). Responsibilities include making/serving beverages
and relating to guests as needed.
WEEKDAY
HOSPITALITY - MEN’S CENTER - Men needed
to serve coffee/ tea once a week or once a month at Men’s Center
6:30 - 8:15 a.m. This opportunity is ideally suited to city workers who want
to volunteer on way to work.
FUNDRAISING
- People with creative ideas needed to develop
fundraising programs to support Friendship House and its activities.
Ideal as group project for club or organization.
